INQUIRING PHOTOGRAPHER

By Jules Ira Rubenstein

We asked Van Cortlandt Village residents:

"What do you think about George Steinbrenner's possible sale of the N.Y. Yankees to Cablevision?"

"I think that the corporatization of sports is disgusting and I think that communities should own sports teams, similar to the Green Bay Packers. I would be against any sort of sale of the Yankees to Cablevision."

Eric Guetschoff

"I think that's a good idea, because maybe they could rid of -- later on -- Steinbrenner. Because he's trying to move the team away, and cablevision may stay here in the Bronx."

Alejandro Colon

"If it doesn't [get taken] off of free TV, then it's not so bad. But if it does, I think it's not fair to all those people who do not have cable, who do not want cable, to be completely shut out of the Yankee baseball games."

Mildred Thalboum

"George might be getting himself into something that he's not ready for, 'cause if he doesn't want to give the Yankees up, he's gonna jerk himself... It doesn't make a difference as long as we win in '99!"

Kevin Williams

"I'm not a big baseball fan, so hearing this is shocking -- especially from George Steinbrenner. I figured he'd be there until they take him out in a body bag. It might be bad because Cablevision might take them out of the Bronx and put them downtown."

Dave Springsteen
