We asked readers if the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) should raise fares, or cut service and personnel, to address its budget gap.

"Ride a bike! Where is it going to stop? There shouldn't be a fare increase, number one,
and there shouldn't be a cutback in service."

Jason Godlewicz

"Decreasing employees and service would be dangerous. That's one of the issues I worry
about -- safety. Cutting service is bad too . . . as the trains are packed as it is."

Anthony Guzman

"There have been too many cuts for the past two years. They've raised the fares already.
They should find some other way."

Alexander Chopski

"Whether or not they cut back services, they're still going to raise the fare. Two dollars is
enough. I ride the No. 35 bus . . . early in the morning, and that 35 bus is jammed."

Mona Jeremiah

"It's hogwash. The MTA is ripping off people. I really think they need to sit down and
re-study this thing. They have town meetings to discuss it, but they don't take suggestions
from them."
