Amalgamated Celebrates
Amalgamated
Houses, which provides low-cost, non-profit cooperative housing to
2,000 families in Van Cortlandt Village celebrates its 75th
anniversary this month. The Amalgamated's president, Ed Yaker stood
with the sign indicating when the development was founded. The
festivities included a photo exhibit (residents identified some
familiar faces in photo at right) and a coffee-and-cake reception in
Vladeck Hall on Nov. 1. The community hall is located in the
development's Building 6, which is the oldest cooperative housing
structure in the United States.
