INQUIRING PHOTOGRAPHER

By JULES IRA RUBENSTEIN

The Loew’s Paradise Theatre is set to reopen for the first time in 11 years on Oct. 29. We asked readers about their memories of visiting the landmark gem.

“It broke our hearts when we found out that they were shutting it down. It’s a beautiful place—the artwork is magnificent. God bless them.”

Ernie King

“I remember going there and playing hooky with my friends. It was the jewel of the Bronx. I always wondered what happened to the Paradise. I want to go and take my family and let them experience it.”

Steven Bobker

“When I was much younger, and lived in Brooklyn, I was dating a young man from the Bronx. It was our favorite place to go. It was like being in another world, really. I’m sure there weren’t many theatres that looked like that.”

Arlene Cohen

“It was the best date place, especially with the stars above you. If you liked him, it was romantic. If you didn’t like him, at least you had the atmosphere and the movie. You could get there without [driving], rain or shine. Welcome back!”

Ruth Ozer

“The Loew’s Pardise was one of the showcases of New York City. It was a pleasure to go in there, whether you liked the movie or not. Just going in there made your day.”
