INQUIRING PHOTOGRAPHER

By JULES IRA RUBENSTEIN

President Bush wants the power to use “alternative” interrogation methods on suspected terrorists. Critics – like Senator John McCain – say Bush’s plan allows for torture and violates the Geneva Conventions. We asked readers what they thought.

Interrogation should consist of any means possible to get information out that is needed to protect our country. If he doesn’t do this, we are in jeopardy because these terrorists are terrorizing the world. Something’s gotta be done before there are other terrorist attacks.

Jose Rodriguez

They should work with the rules of the Geneva Convention because if we treat the prisoners this way, they’re going to treat us the same. I don’t believe in torture. See, I originally come from Northern Ireland so I know. Once it starts there, it’s going to start here.

Kevin Hughes

I’ve been following this issue for some time. I don’t believe the president should be given the authority to do this. There’s so much going on right now where citizens are losing their rights – it’s just another example of mistreatment.

Melinda Morrel Wilson

We have the Geneva Convention that we should respect. There’s no reason why President Bush brings these people to Cuba, or has them interrogated in different parts of the world. America has to give the example.

Phillip Sanchez

I agree with the senator because if they took our guys as prisoners, how would we want them to treat our prisoners? With humanity. We have to be human when dealing with prisoners. They should find another way to get information without torturing people.
