INQUIRING PHOTOGRAPHER

By JULES IRA RUBENSTEIN

After narrowly losing the Democratic primary to Ned Lamont two weeks ago, incumbent Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman is re-casting himself as an Independent to run in the November general election. We asked readers what they thought.

He should just go into retirement or support the Party. Why should he run as an Independent? He lost his primary and that’s it. In a way, it looks like he’s trying to get back at his Party.

Irving Gruber

It’s disgusting – because he lost the primary, he runs as an Independent … he has no party loyalty at all. And I hope he loses. He doesn’t really identify strongly with theDemocratic Party. And also, I don’t consider Iraq a “marginal” issue.

Mary Soliday

I lived 25 years in Connecticut, and watched Lieberman do a very good job. However, I think he’s too Republican to be a Democrat. He’s going to carry a lot of Democratic faithful aware of his record. His Republican leanings may help him garner some of the Republican vote.

Joe Autorino

I hope he runs and I hope he beats whoever is running against him. We need Lieberman – he is independent-minded and an independent voice and both parties need him.

Peg Schroeder

I’m a Democrat, so I hope that [Lamont] pulls it off. It’s just people saying: “We don’t like your war – you supported it, and you supported Bush and we’re not going to vote for you.” Lieberman’s not going to give up and I don’t blame him.
