INQUIRING PHOTOGRAPHER

By JULES IRA RUBENSTEIN

We asked readers what they thought about the new city policy for police officers to randomly inspect bags of subway and bus riders.

“I think it’s necessary, as long as it’s done on a random basis and that it’s not targeted at a particular community. In many office buildings these days, you have to go through a metal detector. While it’s unfortunate, I understand the reason.”

Oliver Koppell

“I’m supportive of the searching. I have a family I have to look out for. As long as I know my wife [and family] takes public transportation ... I know they’ll be a little safer. Every little bit helps.”

Hector Torres

“It’s a complete invasion of privacy. It’s not right. Your personal belongings are your personal belongings. There should be a presumption of innocence.”

Jennifer Reed

“I’m all for it. I think it will deter a terrorist. It’s been long overdue.”

Marian Ewai

“It’s very good. You don’t know what people have in their bags. It’s not an invasion of privacy. If you have nothing in your bag, what have you got to hide?”

Linda Bommicino
