INQUIRING PHOTOGRAPHER

By JULES IRA RUBENSTEIN

We asked people on the Grand Concourse if they thought the Indian Point nuclear power plant should be shut down.

"If it causes any kind of threat to the environment, perhaps they may do that. To protect the people. I'm sure there are alternate means of energy out there."

Dennis Gunes

"If they have everything under control -- in the air, on the ground -- they shouldn't close it down. We need the power."

Joe Lopez

"We should definitely not close it down. Nuclear power is one of the most efficient sources of power that we could find. If a nuclear bomb is dropped here, then we don't have to worry about the nuclear power plant, because we're all going to die anyway."

Nick Gianatti

"Closing it is a great idea, just for community concerns. If something did happen, it would affect every community in New York City. I think we should be looking into alternative means -- water, solar energy."

Sekou Jackson

"If it's going to be a health concern and endanger people, I think people could figure out something to be more safe. I think they should close it, but then again, before they do, they should have a backup plan."
