INQUIRING PHOTOGRAPHER

By JULES IRA RUBENSTEIN

We asked readers what they thought about the U.S. Supreme Court case considering affirmative action in education.

"The principle behind it is good, but it's not right to allow somebody in over another
person because of their race. You should get into school based on your grades and your
work."

Thomas Bogerd

"You should use race for affirmative action, because right now we have a school system that
is very segregated.  Until that is resolved, and there is equal opportunities, race should be a factor."

Marina Molina

"There's a lot of racism in this country, and without affirmative action, a lot of minorities
that get jobs would not have them. The same thing goes for education."

Brenda Lovelace

"I oppose racial quotas. To get into college, you should believe in your grades, not your
color or your background. It should be straightforward."

James Jackson

"Race is a factor. People have been hurt in the past, and it will continue in the future if we
don't use some kind of method to correct the problem. Affirmative action hasn't been
around long enough to make that type of determination."

Terry Rowe
