We asked readers what they thought of a new law that requires drivers to provide child seats for kids up to age 7.

“Kids between the ages of 1 and 7 should use a seat because anything could happen. That’s a child’s life. It’s better to be safe than sorry, no matter what it costs.”

Ebony Coimbre

“I don’t think it’s a good idea. I always thought it went by weight. You can have a 7-year-old that weighs [a lot]. They’re not going to fit into a seat. They should stick to weight, not age.”

Jessica Acevedo

“I think it’s a good thing, but I also feel that the state and the city should help people who can’t afford these seats. [The cost is] pretty steep for most parents these days.”

Gene Flores

“They have to consider the child’s weight. A 7-year-old could weigh 40 pounds … or 60 pounds. Heaviness will [have an] impact if the child gets hurts in the event of the accident.”

Sophie Morgan

“I’m expecting my second child and have a car, and I believe it would be beneficial if the government is willing to help pay for the seats. It’s definitely a safer way to travel, but the seats range from $100 to $300. The cost of living is already high enough.”
