INQUIRING PHOTOGRAPHER

By JULES IRA RUBENSTEIN

We asked readers what they thought of immigration reform legislation now being considered by the Senate that would create tough new restrictions and criminalize illegal foreigners.

“It’s an OK bill because everybody has the right to work. I don’t have any problem with them working here, as long as they’re willing to work for us and put money back into our system. They should have to
follow the same rules.”

Gina Franchi

“We have to help the immigrants, because this country is growing with them. You cannot make it criminal to help them. We (immigrants) make the economic power.”

Fidel Morales

“It’s ridiculous. How are we going to allow them to come and work for lower wagers? We don’t get the proper wages. If they’ve been here for many years, they should be doing everything that everyone else is doing.”

Lorraine Bellve

“Immigration reform is foolish. I don’t see that immigrants who come here illegally are taking jobs away from us. They are an integral part of our economy. We owe them something in terms of their social services and support.”

Lynn Polansky

“Immigrants built this country. I don’t think there should be any tough penalties. The only problem is the bad people (who come).
But if a decent person comes here to live, that person shouldn’t go through problems.”

Joe Asare
