INQUIRING PHOTOGRAPHER

By JULES IRA RUBENSTEIN

We asked readers what they thought about President Bush’s insistence that he has the right to use wiretaps and other surveillance mechanisms without a court order for security purposes.

“The court order requirement is so that a panel of judges can protect people from secret government spying. Bush broke that law and evaded the court’s oversight. Yes, Congress should censure his conduct.”

Tom O’Brien

“President Bush is wrong about this. It’s something he isn’t supposed to do. He can get information without using these methods.”

Eddie Negron

“I have mixed emotions. I think he’s really looking out for this country. A lot of people are misjudging him. But it’s been a while since 9-11. We’ve had few threats.”

Helen Henning

“Whatever it takes to combat terrorism, by all means go ahead and do it.”

Danny McGraw

“I don’t think he has the right to just run wiretaps on people. It’s just unethical. If it [is allowed], what will be next? What about our freedom? I think it’s wrong.”

Mildred Viallez
