INQUIRING PHOTOGRAPHER

By JULES IRA RUBENSTEIN

We asked readers what they thought of the president's plan of having individuals invest their Social Security benefits in the stock market.

"I think in the long run, we’re going to lose our money. I’d be afraid of the investment. I feel that that’s the government’s responsibility. They invented the plan, so stick with it.”

John Coghlan

"The privatization proposal is a very sound idea. If you use sound investment practices, you should get a fairly good return. I’d rather have the private plan for myself because … I can guarantee my return. What am I guaranteed now?”

Fidel Mercado

"I would try to leave the plan as it is now. The private investment plan seems too volatile. I assume that there would be no guarantees.”

Jason Wojciechowski

"I don’t trust this plan. Why not just leave it the way it is?”

Victor Rodriguez

"I would put it in a private plan. This way I could have more money at the end of my retirement. If it means I’m going to have more money at the end, I’ll do it.”
