St. Philip Neri Celebrates
Cardinal Edward Egan
presided over a dedication ceremony Jan. 6 to officially reopen the St.
Philip Neri Church. A fire destroyed the century-old church in 1997 and,
since then, parishioners have celebrated mass in the school gym and basement
of the church. Attendees included local residents and several firemen from
the Briggs Avenue firehouse who had responded to the fire. The main church
opened for services in September.
