Crotona Park Apartments Receives 2012 Big
Apple Brownfield Award
April 23, 2012 : SoBRO is pleased to
announce that its most recent development
project, Crotona Park Apartments, has been
selected to receive the Big Apple Brownfield
Award in the category of Affordable Housing. The
Big Apple Brownfield Awards, given on behalf of
the New York City Brownfield Partnership,
recognize excellence in brownfield redevelopment
by honoring the most successful brownfield
projects in New York City. SoBRO will join its
partners, Exact Capital and Joy Construction
Corporation, to formally receive the honor at
the Big Apple Brownfield Awards Ceremony on
Thursday, May 3 rd . The ceremony will be held
in the Greenberg Lounge at NYU School of Law
from 4:30 to 7:00 pm.
Crotona Park Apartments received the Brownfield
award for its creation of 64 high quality low-
and moderate-income units, along with over
12,000 square feet of commercial and community
facility space, on the site of a former gasoline
station in a high-need section of the Bronx.
Units are priced at or below 80% of area median
income and are guaranteed to remain affordable
for at least a 30-year term. The project also
embodies the essence of energy-efficient design
by participating in the NYSERDA Multifamily
Performance Program so as to reduce energy
consumption by 20% of baseline standards. Green
design features include high efficiency boilers,
Energy Star appliances and lighting fixtures,
occupancy sensors, increased insulation and air
sealing, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and a green
roof for tenant use; truly a “brown to green”
project.
