Borough President Adolfo Carrión Jr. announced today that
Bronx Week 2002, co-sponsored by Montefiore Medical
Center,
kicks off Saturday, June 8th at 3:00 p.m. with the WORD Poetry
& Music Festival, featuring the Borough's own U.S. Poet
Laureate Billy Collins, and other poets and performers at the |

of Mount St. Vincent in Riverdale. The theme of this
year's celebration, "The Bronx : 61 Neighborhoods
Strong," ends on a high note with the Annual Bronx Week
Parade and first-ever Bronx Food & Art Festival--both
making their debut along Mosholu Parkway between Hull Avenue
and the Grand Concourse. |
Carrión said, "From Mott Haven to Riverdale and from
Co-Op City to Pelham Parkway, the Bronx's 61
neighborhoods--each with a unique flavor and individual style
are open for visitors to come, appreciate and enjoy." |
The festivities include a massive lunchtime fitness workout on
the steps of The Bronx County Building, and all-day Business
Workshop for small to medium-sized businesses sponsored by
Citibank, 3-hour Historic Landmarks bus tours with stops at
The Hall of Fame for Great Americans, the Van Cortlandt House
Museum and much more. |
Other events taking place on Saturday include a Father's
Day tribute beginning at 9:00 a.m. At 11:00 a.m., catch
the star-studded Bronx Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony,
outside the Bronx County Building, at 161st Street and the
Grand Concourse. The event, also sponsored by Citibank,
Cablevision, JP Morgan, Chase, Con Edison, Verizon and
Bronxnet, will cap eight fun-filled days. |
Carrión added, "From the seafaring community of City Island, to the
historic neighborhood of Longwood, the borough's rich history
and culture have inspired and captivated generations. We
invite everyone to come enjoy the many sights, sounds and
tastes of these neighborhoods and others found in New York
City's only U.S. Mainland borough." |

The Bronx salutes its Fathers of the Year, at Veterans'
Memorial Hall in the Bronx County Building, at 851 Grand Concourse at 161st
Street.
The Bronx Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony takes place at
11:00 a.m. on the Grand Concourse and East 161st Street, when permanent street
plaques are unveiled paying tribute to stars that got their start in The
Bronx.
At 12:00 noon
the
Bronx Week 2002 Parade begins at Hull Avenue and Mosholu Parkway. A
Food & Art Festival will also take place along Mosholu Parkway featuring
popular Bronx eateries. Bronx-based artists will also display their
works that include ceramics, jewelry and photography. Artists wishing
