Committee of
100 Democrats brings in over 2500 petition signatures for
Democratic Slate
Bedford Park,
Bronx
July 17, 2006
During the Month of June, The Committee
of 100 Democrats, a product of North Bronx Thinktank, gathered
over 2500 Democratic signatures to ensure their candidates will
get into September Primary. On Monday, The First Day of Filing,
Chairman Ricky Martinez, filed the petitions with the city Board
of Elections”. “Boy I am glad its
over,” smiled Ricky, “but we
had a great team out there”. “From Fordham to Kingsbridge
Bedford Park Norwood, Van Courtlandt Village, Mosholu and even
Riverdale, we have known shown our strength”.
The Committee of 100 Democratic
collected signatures for Congressmen Eliot Engel and Jose
Serrano, Assembly people Jose’ Rivera, Naomi Rivera and Jeffrey
Dinowitz, State Senators Efrain Gonzalez and Jeffrey Klein &
Attorney General Candidate Mark Green.
To achieve this, The Committee
discussed assistance with both,
Bronx County & The Ben Franklin
Club. Executive Director Anthony Rivieccio dispatched a 17
petition committee to cover such a long range of The Bronx. “Our
job was threefold: To work with Bronx County, The Ben Franklin
Club and show our strength and independence in assisting an
“independent” candidate. “Yes, said Anthony, “in essence, we
wanted to see if we had the “oomph” to stand alone along with
other clubs”.
The Committee’s impressive first
showing in 12 years covered 10%
of The Bronx and was a
substantial partner with the Ben Franklin Club, supplying 29% of
their signatures cast. They are a great partner, says Chairman
Martinez.
Anthony says, according to Board of
election preliminary figures, “we could now be one of the
stronger clubs out there”. What’s important is that this about
qualify of life and as a North Bronx Community we must band
together for these causes”.
Vice Chairman Robert Press Reported
that The Committee’s best showings were for Congressman Eliot
Engel, and Assemblywoman Naomi Rivera, in The Bedford Park &
Mosholu areas. He did also report a “fair showing” in Norwood,
covering Jeffrey Dinowitiz area.
Mosholu Manager Chris Alexander
confirmed how rough and wonderful it was. “We have to make
change in our North Bronx Neighbors because The Federal
Government obviously is not going to help”. We had a great
organization, then, looking at Bob Press (The Dispatcher for
Jeffrey Dinowitz), well, almost perfect. (Laughing) |
